On Friday 29 April 2011, at eleven o'clock, Prince William and Catherine Middleton were married in Westminster Abbey, London, as crowds gathered in the streets outside to mark the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, the groom's grandparents, alongside The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, his father and stepmother. Philippa Middleton served as maid-of-honour, supported by four bridesmaids and two page boys, while Prince Harry stood as best man to his brother.
The service was conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, with the marriage solemnised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and the Address delivered by the Bishop of London, Dr Richard Chartres.
Kate Middleton wore a gown designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, while Prince William wore the scarlet tunic of an Irish Guards officer. Afterwards, the newly titled Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled by horse-drawn carriage to Buckingham Palace, greeted by members of the public along the route, before The Queen hosted a reception and The Prince of Wales held a private dinner that evening.
