Karl Lagerfeld was photographed in Paris on 21 January 2003, pictured in a black suit, white shirt and black tie as he appeared at the end of the presentation of his Chanel Spring-Summer 2003 Haute Couture collection.
The show itself was later described as flamboyant, colorful and filled with joy, with models presenting Lagerfeld's creations on the runway that day. Of the collection, Lagerfeld said at the time, "It is all about luxury."
According to the book Catwalk: Chanel, Lagerfeld drew on the history of the house and the particular skills of its Haute Couture atelier for the collection, going as far as to coax one of Coco Chanel's own tailors out of retirement to learn how Mademoiselle had constructed the sleeves of her iconic suit jacket.
