On Friday 29 April 2011, Prince William married Catherine Middleton at 11 o'clock in Westminster Abbey. Miss Middleton had travelled by car with her father from the Goring Hotel, along The Mall and through Parliament Square before arriving at the Abbey on his arm.
Philippa Middleton served as maid-of-honour alongside four bridesmaids and two page boys, while Prince Harry stood as best man. The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, took part in proceedings; the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, solemnised the marriage, and the Bishop of London, Dr Richard Chartres, delivered the address.
The bride wore a gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and the groom the scarlet tunic of an Irish Guards officer. Around 1,900 guests filled the Abbey, while roughly a million spectators lined London's streets and an estimated 2 billion watched around the world.
The couple later appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony as a military flyover passed overhead. Prime Minister David Cameron had declared the day a national holiday across the UK.
